In the past few weeks, my 8 month old daughter has decided she is determined to say “Daddy”. Not Da Da or Dad. Daddy. She yells it, whispers it, babbles it, and most of all… sings it.
During the same time, I’ve been singing a lot. For a few days I felt spiritually dry and I felt that was the only way I could get past it. I began to wonder, “Does he hear me? Is it enough?”
Later that afternoon my sweet husband, a wonderful father, walked in the room and said to our sweet baby, “Oh sweetheart! That’s my favorite song! Sing it some more! I love it when you sing that song.” Instantly I felt God speak to my heart. That is exactly how he feels when we sing! He’s so proud, happy, and blessed by our worship! While we may think we’re just babbling out lyrics and no one hears them, He does. And He LOVES it!
How often we forget it’s about Him and blessing Him. Not what it does for us.
Ever since that day, I’ve had a song on my heart that I’ve been singing repeatedly. I feel I should share it, because it sums up what I’m trying to get across perfectly. Enjoy!
When I Hear The Praises Start
Keith Green
My son, My son, why are you striving
You can’t add one thing to what’s been done for you
I did it all while I was dying
Rest in your faith, my peace will come to you
For when I hear the praises start
I want to rain upon you
Blessings that will fill your heart
I see no stain upon you
Because you are my child and you know me
To Me you’re only holy
Nothing that you’ve done remains
Only what you do for Me
My child, My child, why are you weeping
You will not have to wait forever
That day and that hour is in My keeping
The day I’ll bring you into Heaven
For when I hear the praises start
My child, I want to rain upon you
Blessing that will fill your heart
I see no stain upon you
Because you are My child and you know me
To me you’re only holy
Nothing that you’ve done remains
Only what you do in Me
My precious bride, the day is nearing
When I’ll take you in My arms and hold you
I know there are so many things that you’ve been hearing
But you just hold on to what I have told you
For when I hear the praises start
My bride, I want to rain upon you
Blessings that will fill your heart
I see no stain upon you
Because you are My child, and you know Me
To me you’re only holy
Nothing that you’ve done will remain
Only what you do for me
